Babel means "confusion”, and is the name of the tower from the Old Testament, built by humans who tried to challenge God’s authority and eventually were judged by God himself. The artist paradoxically compares the chaotic situation she encountered after the collapse of the tower of religion to Babel, and presents it as interactive installation art that combines a deep learning algorithm and VR.

After escaping from the box of religion, she was faced with numerous different boxes of faiths and beliefs that spread endlessly in front of her. Seeing them all, she had no choice but to ask why this box should be the only real one? As she opened the boxes, it was as if she saw a list of copies and they seemed way too human to be part of god’s groups.

When the huge axis that had been supporting her whole life disappeared, she lost her mind to the countless visual information that was waving into her brain. The sound from the ends of both extremes was plausible and somewhat unsuitable. The two eyes wanted to chase different things, and she wondered if this is a curse or a blessing.

Babel은 “혼돈”을 의미하며, 구약 성경에서 신의 권위에 도전하려다 신의 심판을 받은 인간들이 쌓아올리던 탑의 이름이며, 쌓아올린 종교라는 거대한 탑이 무너진 후 마주하게 된 혼돈의 상황을 역설적으로 바벨에 비유하여 딥러닝 알고리즘, VR 등의 기술을 접목한 인터렉티브 설치예술을 선보였다.

종교의 상자에서 벗어난 그녀는 자신의 눈앞에 끝없이 펼쳐진 수많은 종교의 상자들을 마주했다. 그 상자들을 본 그녀는 왜 이 상자만이 진정한 상자인가 라는 질문을 던질 수밖에 없었다. 상자들을 열어보았지만 마치 복제본들의 나열과 같았고 신의 집단이라기엔 너무 인간적이었다. 평생을 지탱하고 있던 거대한 축이 사라진 후 그녀는 자신의 뇌로 쏟아들어오는 무수한 시각정보에 정신을 놓았다. 양 극단의 선 끝에서 들려오는 소리는 동시에 그럴듯하면서도 어딘가 맞지 않았다. 두 눈동자는 서로 다른 것을 쫓길 원했고 그녀는 이게 저주일지 축복일지 궁금해졌다.
